Kelly’s Heroes

Kelly’s Heroes is a unique and entertaining blend of war film and heist comedy, directed by Brian G. Hutton. Set during World War II, the movie follows a group of American soldiers, led by Clint Eastwood’s character Kelly, who embark on a rogue mission to steal a hidden cache of Nazi gold.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Donald Sutherland as the eccentric tank commander “Oddball,” Telly Savalas as the tough yet likable Sergeant “Big Joe,” and Don Rickles as the wisecracking “Crapgame.” Together, they form a ragtag crew of soldiers determined to pull off the ultimate heist behind enemy lines.

Kelly’s Heroes balances thrilling action sequences with sharp, often irreverent humor, providing a comedic take on the harshness of war. With its quirky characters, witty dialogue, and catchy soundtrack—including the memorable theme “Burning Bridges” by Mike Curb Congregation—the film offers a fresh and unconventional take on the war movie genre.

A perfect mix of adventure, humor, and camaraderie, Kelly’s Heroes remains a fan favorite for its ability to entertain while subtly reflecting on the absurdities and ironies of conflict.
