Doom (2005)

“Doom” is a 2005 science fiction action horror film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, loosely inspired by the iconic video game series from id Software. The film stars Karl Urban as John “Reaper” Grimm and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Sergeant Asher “Sarge” Mahonin.

Set in the year 2046, the story unfolds at a research facility on Mars that is suddenly quarantined after a disastrous experiment releases deadly, mysterious creatures. A team of Marines, led by Sarge, is dispatched to investigate and contain the threat. Reaper, whose sister Dr. Samantha Grimm (played by Rosamund Pike) is among the scientists on Mars, joins the elite squad.

As the team navigates the dark, labyrinthine corridors of the facility, they encounter terrifying, mutated monsters that were once human, transformed by a pathogen. The Marines face off against these creatures while trying to unravel the outbreak’s mystery and prevent the infection from reaching Earth.

“Doom” delivers intense action sequences and claustrophobic environments, including a notable first-person shooter-inspired segment that pays tribute to its video game origins. While the film received mixed reviews, it has achieved a cult following among fans of the game series and the action-horror genre. Known for its fast-paced action, special effects, and Dwayne Johnson’s memorable performance as the morally conflicted Marine leader, “Doom” remains a notable entry in the genre.
